Best Cocoa Powder Ever! By Michelle Kurke
This product is not what I expected. When I agreed to try it, I expected a nice cocoa powder that I could use in my baking. I expected that it would be a higher quality than what I buy in the grocery store, but that's about it. Nothing especially different. Wow! I was really surprised to see how different this powder really is. It is definitely NOT your typical cocoa powder.
The texture is finer. The taste is richer. There's a sort of bitter element that used to be in my baked goods that is now gone. Honestly, I never realized it had been there. It wasn't anything that was noticeable - until it was suddenly not there.
I used this product to make my son's two favorite chocolate treats - chocolate pie and brownies. Normally, I use Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder for my chocolate pie because we want something extra dark and rich. When I opened this bag, I was a little disappointed to see how light the powder was. Boy! Was I fooled! My pie was darker and richer than it ever was when I used the Hershey's. A single slice cured my chocolate addiction for an entire week. It was just so incredibly rich.
I also used it to bake brownies. The fine powder blended in with my flour so much better than store brand cocoa powder. Once I combined my dry ingredients, I couldn't make out any clumps of cocoa powder. It blended so well that my flour almost looked like it was just a darker shade. Really impressive. And naturally it dissolved right into the wet ingredients with minimal stirring.
I'm rather stingy with my 5 star reviews - especially when it comes to food products. But I have to say that this one really earned the rating. If I purchased a 2 pack of Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder here on Amazon, I would pay $15.50 for the package which equals 1 lb. This 1 lb bag is currently running $15.97. I actually expected the price difference to be much larger. After all, this is a raw organic product. For only $.47 more, it is worth every single penny. This will definitely be my go-to cocoa powder in the future.
I've tried both ceremonial grade Matcha and Culinary grade Matcha before. This grade is new to me, but I LOVE it! It was explained in one of the emails that I received from the company that this green tea powder was a different blend that can be mild enough to drink, but strong enough to use in recipes. I definitely found it good enough to drink straight by whisking it into hot water like ceremonial grade Matcha. I've also used it in a frappe type drink, with almond milk, ice and Truvia in a blender. I think I might add a little cinnamon and an extra packet of Truvia next time. I love the sustained energy that Matcha gives me and this Organic Japanese Matcha powder works perfectly any way I'd like to use it. It comes in a heavy duty bag with a zip top that actually works to help keep it fresh. Very impressed! Total bonus for me that it's organic!
Delicious Organic Raw Cacao Power in a reseable bag!!! By Simplified Mommy
This Organic Raw Cacao Power is amazing! I go through a lot of Cacoa Powder making cookies and brownies so it adds up fast. The problem is, it is super hard to find any that is organic is stores around where I live. I have found one place that sales some, but that's an hour and a half drive away, so it's not idea. I was so excited when I came across this 1 pound bag from Freedom Superfoods! Now I can simply order online and have it at my door.
The smell of this stuff is divine. Once I opened the bag I just wanted to sit there and smell it all day. It is medium brown in color and nice and smooth in texture. It seemed to mix into hot and cold food both very well. This cacao power comes in a shiny gold bag that seems to be heavy duty. I was easily able to dip out what I needed without it tumbling over and pouring out. The best part about this bag is that it is resealable and actually resealed!
I don't always love Winter. Here in New York, snow and cold can get old pretty fast. I feel that for the Holiday season it is a necessary evil, but otherwise, I find myself just waiting it out for warmer, more pleasant weather. That being said, I bake like no other this time of year if for no other reason then to keep warm! I'm always looking to try new recipes, bake new goodies, or discover new ingredients. Most recently, I was given the opportunity to try out Pure, Raw Cacao Powder from Freedom Superfoods in exchange for an honest review.
First and foremost let me tell you about my love affair with chocolate. More like a dependency actually.... I will eat anything chocolate, and chances are, I will eat more of it hen I am finished. I just love the stuff. When we are out of chocolate, WATCH OUT, I will be in rare form. My mom, knowing of this obsession, gave me a recipe to try, which also gave me the opportunity to use my new Pure, Raw Cacao Powder!
What is great about the Freedom Superfoods Pure, Raw Cacao Powder is that it is USDA certified organic. It is also free of sugars, additives, preservatives, carriers and processing aids. This says to me that I am getting a product that is good for my family, and myself. This particular Cacao Powder is packed with many essential nutrients, including: Magnesium, Potassium, Iron and Copper. These minerals are highly alkalizing which results in keeping you healthy, and therefore happy. It smells amazing, and tastes wonderful in recipes.
